Our Commitment to HIPAA Compliance

\n\n\n

Ambulance Medical Billing (“AMB,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides medical billing and revenue cycle management services to ambulance and EMS agencies. In performing these services, we may create, receive, maintain, or transmit Protected Health Information (PHI) on behalf of our clients, who are “Covered Entities” under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). In this relationship, AMB acts as a HIPAA “Business Associate.”

\n\n\n\n

Business Associate Agreements (BAAs)

\n\n\n

AMB maintains signed Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with the EMS and ambulance agencies we serve, as required under HIPAA. These agreements set out how PHI may be used and disclosed, and the safeguards AMB is contractually and legally obligated to apply when handling it on a client’s behalf.

\n\n\n\n

How We Protect PHI

\n\n\n

Protected Health Information handled by AMB is encrypted and protected in line with the safeguards required under the HIPAA Security Rule. Access to PHI is restricted to authorized personnel who need it to perform billing and revenue cycle functions on behalf of our clients.

\n\n\n\n

Breach Notification

\n\n\n

In the event of a breach involving unsecured PHI, AMB will notify affected clients in accordance with the HIPAA Breach Notification Rule and the terms of the applicable Business Associate Agreement, so that our clients can meet their own notification obligations to patients and regulators.
